Shane is hoping to raise the funds necessary to cover professional editing, book design and production, and a healthy marketing budget to make my book a success.
This pre-sale campaign is run through a crowdfunding company - Pozible.
10% of the rewards will be donated to Oz Child to help further train future foster carers. As it is estimated that 200 children are currently waiting to be placed with carers each night.
"I truly believe my story that I am sharing will help provide hope and resilience to current youth in foster care, current foster carers & help in the recruitment of new foster carers. It will also help people struggling with mental illness, sexuality, grief/loss, and inspire my fellow LGBTIQ+ and the wider community". - Shane Bautista

Resilience: a story of survival synopsis
‘I started to cry and yell as I felt anxious and scared. I was only two years old when Craig came crashing out his bedroom holding a pillow. As Craig held the pillow over my face, I remember kicking and pulling at his arms, but he was too strong. I couldn't breathe. I could feel my panic increase, my heart beating faster. I thought I was going to die…'
From the age of two, Shane didn't have the normal upbringing, living a haphazard life with his mother to being handed around family members when his mother rejected him, Shane was an unwanted child. Becoming a ‘Ward of the State' at the age of eight, Shane was placed with his new foster family which, was only meant to be temporary. Unlike most children who have moved around to different families, Shane was lucky. He lived with his foster family until he was a young adult.
Resilience is a story about survival, with the feeling of not belonging & disconnected from himself and the outside world. Shane share's childhood traumas, heartache, grief & loss, his struggles with depression, anxiety, self-harm, drug addiction, promiscuous behaviour, suicidal thoughts, and an unsuccessful suicide attempt.
Shane hopes that through this memoir, he can help others who have endured the trials and tribulations of becoming a Government Ward of the State in Foster Care. Shane also hopes this memoir will give insight to current foster parents, help recruit aspiring foster carers, increase mental health awareness, suicide prevention, drug and alcohol addiction, LGBTIQ+ and the wider community.
This powerful memoir is Shane's message of hope, recovery, and resilience. There is light at the end of the tunnel. If you have resilience you too can become your own success story. Shane is an advocate of recruiting new foster carers to care for the growing numbers of children awaiting safe, loving carers and families. Also, as a Mental Health Nurse, he is also working towards improving the stigma towards mental health illness and increasing suicide prevention.
