The Journal of John Williams, is a new book by Pastor Iotia Nooroa produced by VoyaginK Publishing - the Pacific's specialist publishing house.

It's a fascinating look into John Williams, Missionary to the South Seas.

Pastor Iotia Nooroa has researched, written and transcribed the handwritten journal of John Williams. It is a view directly into the thoughts and of the experiences of a fearless and compassionate Christian missionary evangelist.

As the Chairperson of the Cook Islands Christian Church of Australia, I would like to give my full endorsement to The Journal of  John  Williams 1823.  This is truly a great and invaluable work and I am grateful for its clarity with regards to the history of the arrival of Christianity to our shores. This book will in no doubt be useful to those in our islands of the Pacific in seeing actual information that displays early historical reception of the gospel of Jesus Christ.  This will also give us a fresh view of the endeavors of the missionaries of the London Missionary Society, especially Rev John Williams in 1823. I strongly recommend this book to all who love our gospel history.

More about the book...

The effect of the Good News concerning Jesus Christ has transformed the lives of our people from a life of hopelessness to that of hope and blessings.

The missionaries gave us a good knowledge of the English language. It has given us clean and prosperous lives. It has given us easy access to the Country of Australia and all commonwealth nations.

But it did not just come freely; men and women from the United Kingdom through the London Missionary Society suffered so much to avail to us such privileges. Many of them were martyred. All of them were deprived of the luxuries and comfort of their homeland.

The story of John Williams is sure to inspire many.

 Excerpt from the book...

Early this morning we saw Aitutaki and was up with it between nine and ten o’clock we were soon surrounded with a great number of canoes laden with men. All were extremely anxious to get on board but we had determined not to let a canoe along side until we could see either the Chief or one of the Teachers.  We received a grateful salutation from every canoe that passed us. Some cried out, “Good is the Word of God.” others, “It is well with  Aitutaki”, others, “Aitutaki has embraced the Word of God. The Word of God has taken root at Aitutaki. Some pointed to their hats. Others held up (their) spelling Books to convince us of the truth of what they said and that Aitutaki had really embraced the Word of God. As we sailed across towards the settlement, we beheld a flag staff with a white flag flying which ensured us that the Teachers were safe.
